As a human and a coach I’m an ironist down to the bone though that makes it sounds like I’m laughing lightly at everything which is only half true. A better term in Dire-ony. Life is dire and slapstick. Slip on a banana peel and you could crack your skull open. Not funny at all.
I come by my dironic approach to life through a career in scientific research. While coaching, I’ve worked very closely for 27 years with Harvard/Berkeley neuroscientist and biological anthropologist Terrence Deacon. We’ve been researching the origins and nature of us critters – selves struggling for our own existence. Struggling, trying – life is iffy guesswork. There’s no surefire formula. Ironic shit happens. Good bets sometimes turn out bad and bad bets sometimes turn out good.
If you’re looking for a coach who can offer the comforting promise of a surefire formula, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a coach who can help you identify your tough judgment calls, make better practical bets and feel better about having to bet, I’m a good bet.
My background: A PhD in decision-theory, a masters in public policy, three books, 1,000 plus articles for Psychology Today, many videos on youtube, and thousands of memes: my attempts to make complicated ideas easy, intuitive and personal. But enough about me. If you find yourself dealing with tough judgment calls welcome to the club and get in touch!
